Archaeology department
was separated in 2003 from the department of Archaeology and Art History
which was established in 1993. Our department has been giving MA courses
since 1996 but the bachelor courses have started after the academic year
of 2005-2006.
Archaeology departments
is one of the leaders on competing with the international researchers
and the universities and also on the Multilanguage publications. The
richness of the archeological remains in Turkey is the main potential
for improving this kind of scientific competition and to carry it to the
future. Under the consciousness of this potential our university
administration has supported to establish and developing the Carian
Research Center.
After the establishing
our department many researches have been carried out to enlighten the
early history of the region and to study the ancient materials. In this
manner the first results of the “The problems on Conservations Cultural
and Naturel Resources in Muğla : Cultural and Naturel Resources
Management” was published as a book. This project was carried out by
Carian Researches after the protocol between Muğla University and the
Government of Muğla.
Carian Research Center
is also carrying out the project as “Cultural Inventory of Muğla” after
the protocol between Muğla University and the Government of Muğla.
In addition to these
projects our academicians are carrying out the excavations at Hydai,
Kaunos and Pedasa and surveys at Pedasa, Aspat, Hydai, Kissebükü,
Cedreai, Mobolla and Idyma.
Aims :
Our department after the
bachelorship program aims to raise our students as qualified
archaeologists by teaching them to understand the artistic and
intellectual creations of the ancient civilizations (by focusing
Anatolian ones) together with their cultural elements and to interpret
analytically the connection between past and today on the scope of
causes and results.
Master´s Degree :
Our department is
carrying out MA program and for this program LES and UDS exams are
obligatory for the students.
Titles and Employment:
Our students with the
title of Archaeologist have possibilities to work as specialists or
consultants in the General Directorate of Monuments and Museums, private
and state museums, protection committees and DOSIM under the Ministry Of
Culture And Tourism. They also have opportunity of working as researches
in the Universities.
